Onyx
Onyx is a natural stone that lets light through. When a slab is lit from behind, the banding inside it becomes visible. This is why onyx is chosen for feature walls, island fronts, reception desks and bar fronts.
This page lists our onyx slabs. Green tones include Green Onyx, Jade Green Onyx and Light Green Onyx. Warmer tones include Honey Onyx, Mango Onyx and Brown Onyx. Paler stones include White Onyx and Pink Onyx. Some slabs are named by the way the block was cut: a vein cut shows the bands as lines running along the slab, and a cross cut shows them as rounded, cloud-like patterns.
Whether a particular onyx will backlight well is decided slab by slab. Translucency, banding, thickness and the direction of the cut all change the result, and two slabs with the same name can behave differently. Onyx is also more fragile than most stone, so it is handled with that in mind at every stage.
Each stone has its own page, with an enquiry button. If you are planning a lit installation, tell us the size of the wall and how it will be lit, and we will come back to you with what fits.
Green onyx also appears with green marble and quartzite on All green stones. For every slab across marble, onyx and quartzite, see All natural stone slabs.
